About us
Gwelfor is a community owned and managed Centre that is fully integrated into the Morawelon and London Road communities since the early 1970’s. It is a multipurpose Centre that provides practical facilities and space to community groups in a well managed and sustainable manner. The facilities are accessible to all sectors of the community and great care is taken to ensure that a safe and welcoming atmosphere is created for the user.
The building is owned by Ynys Mon County Council but in February 2003 Gwelfor Community Centre was granted a 28 year lease.
The Centre is run by a group of volunteers, some of whom were part of the original group therefore ensuring that the objectives of the centre are still up-held.
These objectives are:-
- To benefit the area and neighbourhood without any discrimination due to religion, nationality, race, colour, age, gender or political belief.
- To advance education, provide facilities in the interest of social welfare, recreation and leisure, so that condition of life maybe improved.
- A place for all ages of the community to ‘get together’ especially on special occasions and for activities for children during school holidays.
Gwelfor is managed by a committee of 15 volunteers, drawn from the groups using the centre.
Gwelfor consists of a large main hall, a smaller hall, shower and changing rooms, kitchen and two offices.
The two halls are hired to outside agencies when not in use by a community based group. The cost of hire is competitive with other centres in the area.
Development over the years has seen the establishment of the following facilities.
Attached to Gwelfor is the Meithrinfa MorLo Nursery. The building only is owned by Gwelfor. For further information on the Nursery please see the Nursery pages.
