The Morawelon and London Road Regeneration Partnership was formally established in October 2001, then employing two members of part time staff. The partnership now employs 19 members of staff, who are based in Gwelfor Community Centre, London Road Community Centre and the Peibio Office. The Partnership board consists of 25 members, 12 of which form the Board of Directors, and come from a range of sectors consisting of residents, businesses and various agencies. The current joint Chairs of the Partnership are Arwel Roberts and Keith Thomas.
Sine been established Morlo has worked on a number of successful projects, one of which would not have been possible without the partnership working between Morlo and Gwelfor, which is The Community Apprenticeship Scheme. This scheme gives young peoples aged 16 - 25 from the Morlo area the opportunity to train in their local community. At the moment the scheme has two joinery apprentices and one environmental apprentice. These apprentices are under the supervision of Chris Burnell, the Youth Skills Project Worker. All of these posts are funded by the Rank Foundation. Morlo have also worked with Gwelfor on the setting of The Credit Union at the centre, given support with the luncheon club, uses the centre to run coursers, meetings etc, give supports at the youth club and much more.
In order for Morlo to continue it's success in the next phase of Communities First we hope that we can continue to work side by side with Gwelfor, in order to benefit residents of all ages in the area. For more information about the Morlo Partnership please contact the Morlo Office, based at the centre of telephone 01407 765119.
